103rd Anniversary of the Birth of Alicia Alonso: Celebrating an Immortal Legacy.

International Day of Ibero-American Dance

Today, the Alicia Alonso Dance Foundation is honored to commemorate the 103rd anniversary of the birth of the incomparable Primma Ballerina Assoluta Alicia Alonso, a star who not only illuminated the world of dance, but also left an indelible mark on the development of the Spanish talent and in the performing arts in Spain.

Alicia Alonso, a pioneer in her art, revolutionized the world of classical dance with her impeccable technique, her overflowing passion and her unique vision. Her legacy is not only found in the memorable performances that left the entire world breathless, but also in her tireless dedication to training new generations of dancers.

As the founder of this prestigious institution, promoter of the first university dance studies, Alicia Alonso went beyond her role as a dancer and choreographer; she was a mentor, an educator and an inspiration. Through her tireless work, Alicia played a crucial role in fostering Spanish dance talent, creating opportunities for young artists to develop and flourish on a global stage.

Under his tutelage, the Foundation, and later the Alicia Alonso University Institute of Dance, has been a beacon of excellence and a crucible where tradition and innovation converge. Alicia Alonso taught us that dance knows no borders and that art is a universal language that connects cultures and people. Her choreographic legacy, with works that have marked a before and after in the history of ballet, continues to be a benchmark of creativity and artistic expression.

In Spain, Alicia Alonso has left an indelible mark on the development of the performing arts. Her vision and leadership helped establish an enriching dialogue between Cuban and Spanish dance, opening avenues for collaborations and artistic fusions that have enriched both cultures.

On this significant day, we reaffirm our commitment to honor and perpetuate the legacy of Alicia Alonso. Her indomitable spirit, her love of dance, and her dedication to excellence will continue to be the cornerstone of our mission.

We celebrate his life, his art, and his immortal impact on the world of ballet and beyond. Her light continues to shine, guiding future generations of artists and dance lovers.
