Ibero-American Regional Center.

Ibero-American Regional Center for dance, music, performing arts and audiovisual communication.

The project was approved at the 176th meeting of the Executive Council at the request of the Dominican Republic and Spain.

The growing internationalization of contemporary life caused by economic, social and technological development requires professionals to be increasingly competitive. This project is created to promote teaching, quality artistic creation, research and innovation as fundamental elements in the face of the challenges of globalization.

The knowledge society demands profound transformations of educational systems, since it is the only way to guarantee the well-being of citizens and sustainable development. Based on the objectives set in the Millennium Declaration adopted by the United Nations in September 2000 as well as in the programs of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, among which are higher education , cultural diversity and everything related to cultural policies, dialogue and understanding between cultures.

Key activities: teaching, training and preservation of the heritage of the performing arts.

The promotion of autonomy through access to information and knowledge, with special emphasis on freedom of expression, the promotion of the development of communication; the promotion of the use of information and communication technologies for education, science and culture, the Secretariat of State for Culture of the Dominican Republic and the Secretariat of Cooperation of the Kingdom of Spain within the scope of their respective competencies, consider of greatest social, political and cultural interest within the framework of exchange, South-South, South-South-North cooperation, taking as a reference the Convergence process of the European Higher Education Area, for implementation in the Republic Dominican from higher studies in Dance, Performing Arts, Music and Audiovisual Communication. Within this entire process, agreements were initiated with the “Alicia Alonso” Higher Institute of Dance, a center with a specific name of the Foundation of the same name, attached to the Rey Juan Carlos University, and with the Audiovisual Communication area of ​​the same University in Madrid and with the New Latin American Cinema Foundation and its specifically named International Film School, located in San Antonio de los Baños in the Republic of Cuba

In the same way, work began with the Department of Audiovisual Communication of the Rey Juan Carlos University so that in the 2007-2008 school year the process of implementing higher studies in film, radio and television in the Dominican Republic begins.
 
In this framework, the Secretary of State for Culture-SEC proposes the creation of a center with a regional-international vocation and impact scenario for the South-South, South-South-North exchange and cooperation programs, called the Ibero-American Regional Center for the Dance, Performing Arts, Music and Audiovisual Communication of the Dominican Republic. The purpose of this Center is the training of artists and professionals in the fields of dance, performing arts, music and audiovisual communication, based in Santo Domingo.
 
The regional dimension of the Center will be evident in both the training and dissemination and research activities that will extend its benefits to the Dominican and Ibero-American community, promoting the creation of capabilities, the search for excellence, training with high quality standards, diversity and multicultural dialogue. To lay the foundations for this project, teacher training is being carried out in these artistic fields with the contribution of the Spanish Cooperation.
The Regional Center will be integrated in the first stage as associated centers as academic units, the New Latin American Cinema Foundation based in Cuba and the “Alicia Alonso” Higher Dance Institute of the Rey Juan Carlos University of Madrid, Spain.
 
Objectives of this Regional Center
  • Train artists in the domains of dance, performing arts and audiovisual communication with high levels of excellence and contemporary perspective in the Ibero-American region with special emphasis on Latin America and the Caribbean;
  •  Promote the connection of professional artists to society, their commitment to it and their participation in the development processes of the territories where they operate;
  • Promote the validation of high-level diplomas and titles in the training and professional development of artists;
  • Strengthen relations of cooperation, association, exchange and dialogue between the countries of the region, especially with other related regional centers;
  • Promote cultural diversity in the broad context of multilingualism
