Acrobatic and Circus Dance Mention

The mention in Acrobatic and Circus Dances is fundamentally based on the need to create higher studies, raised in the Proposal of the Ministry of Culture, through the INAEM. This process is framed in the proposed Law for the promotion, preservation and dissemination of the circus sector, approved by the Culture Commission of the Congress of Deputies on September 15, 2010.

The Mention, Acrobatic and Circus Dance, unique in Spain, provides a professional profile to our students that responds to the demands of the current work field of the multidisciplinary circus artist, prepared to face the new challenges of the XNUMXst century show.

The current technical and visual language of the circus show shows a clear hybridization of styles and influences from painting, sculpture and avant-garde art, taking dramaturgical references for the Cabaret scene, the Music Hall and Burlesque, among other styles.
The Circus of the XNUMXst century shares various characteristics with other performing formats, appealing to the diversity and fusion of techniques, formats and dance languages. A performing art with its own identity, in the field of languages and creative processes of living and performing arts.

Acrobatic and Circus Dance

The circus continues to have an important performance space within the Performing Arts in Spain with the presence of companies such as the Teatros-Circo de Murcia, Orihuela, Albacete, Santa Cruz de la Palma, El Algar, etc. There were more than 50 circus companies touring the country. Starting in the 70s, the circus began to decline, with few Spanish companies being able to survive in these years.

The turn of the century has made evident the need for innovation, creativity and imagination, causing a forced change in search of new avenues, sometimes from the renewal of the traditional circus, and other times, through new forms of spectacle.
